Issues

Ohio has so many strengths going for it, and I want to support our neighbors as much as I can. Here are my top priorities as your representative.

Education

Children are the future and public schools anchor our communities.

Despite the requirements of our Ohio constitution, legislators have diverted public school funding to pay private school tuition. I support a constitutional method to adequately fund our schools.

2

Healthcare

Every Ohioan needs and deserves accessible, affordable, high quality health care.

Without it, people risk developing chronic illnesses or premature death. Without good healthcare, our people and state lose the ability to thrive. Our state then becomes a less desirable and prosperous place. We also need appropriate regulation of for-profit health and pharmacy benefit management companies which will allow businesses to expand and locate in Ohio.

3

Agriculture

We need policies that increase farm income, keep real estate taxes on farm and forest land low, and support innovation.

We need the state to keep our water safe for all, now and in the future. Water is our best natural resource. Ohio’s water supply is far superior to most other states and nations.

4

Transparency

Our legislature has an unchecked and corporate funded super-majority, hiding what they do from the public.

I believe people must be kept informed about legislation and development plans that affect them. It is inappropriate for local elected officials to sign nondisclosure agreements with private investors -- appearing to, or in fact, making an end run around local voters.

5

Local Economy

As your representative, I will vote against state funding for private projects, such as stadiums, data centers without community benefit, and shifting costs from for-profit utilities to consumers

I will vote for incentives that encourage startups and small business expansion, including tax credits for local green energy job creation.

6

Civility

Name calling, ridicule and shaming have no place in public office.

I will behave respectfully to all and support forums for civil discourse at every level of government. We can model civility for the next generation by teaching life skills that foster good citizenship, information literacy, and communication skills.

7

Local Support

Support for local police, fire and other first responders - Quick response can mean the difference between life and death.

As a legislator, I will work to secure needed planning tools to prevent sudden closures of critical services and unforeseen cost increases. Such a situation in Jefferson Township threatened to disrupt critical services and increase property insurance premiums. In fact, it has increased the cost of dispatch services by 900%. Once elected, I will work to implement best practices for public safety, and advocate for funding to bring those practices to our communities.

8

Affordability

We are all paying more for our utilities than ever before.

Utilities regulation and enforcement are essential, especially at a time when outside investors’ data center projects are driving up power costs for families and small businesses. I want to reform our state development policy with a focus on the cost of living for ordinary Ohioans. The state should also regulate for-profit health and prescription management companies.
